AFB 80-page-001

Asia Food Beverage Magazine (July – August 2016 Issue)

After the success of Thaifex – World of Food Asia 2016 held from 25-29 May, I believe that many of our readers went to discover what’s new and what’s going on in the food and beverage industry as it is important information for your business. Asia Food Beverage Thailand magazine also exhibited at this event as we did not want to miss learning about all the trends and highlights we saw there to inform you!

One interesting thing that occurred during Thaifex’s opening ceremony was the speech made by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak. He said that the food industry is one of the most important industries in Thailand, which is seen through products being exported overseas to over 200 countries with approximate sales value of THB800,000 million per year. A large portion of Thailand’s export sales value comes from products ranking in the top five of the world including rice, processed chicken, canned and processed seafood, frozen and processed seafood and seasonings.

This year, Dr. Somkid expects to see 10% growth with Thailand becoming number one as the kitchen of the world by urging food businesses to look for new markets and introduce new products based on current demands. A diversity of agriculture products is also one of Thailand’s advantages as some food products still have low values; however, there is still a space for developing these into higher value goods. With our experience in production and available modern technology in food processing, Thailand can push itself to an even higher position in the global market.

“Public, private and education partnerships will create the synergy to drive food innovation for the industry,” said Somkid. The cabinet recently endorsed a plan to attract investment in ten clusters, including food, wherein investors are entitled to full corporate income tax exemption for eight years followed by five-year reduction at 50% without tariff for imported machinery.

The government has launched a policy to create a ‘Food Innopolis’ for the research and develop sector in food in terms of quality and packaging to create the food of the future. Supported by the government, I believe more and more in the potential of food industry. This magazine will continue to follow up with this project and provide you information as soon as it comes in. We are thrilled to share in our 80th issue with you, as we navigate the ever-growing and changing food industry together. In honor of this milestone, we have redesigned our magazine to be more reader-friendly and look forward to sharing the next 80 issues of this journey with you!
